Willbee Parental Consent Notice
COPPA Direct Notice
Effective date: June 22, 2026
Operator: Magic Lantern Studios, LLC, 1949 Walker Avenue, Memphis, Tennessee 38104, jason@maglanstudios.com
Under COPPA, before collecting personal information from a child under 13, we must give the parent direct notice of our information practices and obtain verifiable parental consent. Because Willbee is parent-operated (you create the account and add your child), consent is captured from you at sign-up.
A. Direct notice to parents
1. We have collected your contact information to obtain your consent. You are creating a Willbee account as the parent/guardian and providing your name and email so we can give you this notice and obtain your consent.
2. What we collect from your child and how. Willbee is operated by you on your child's behalf. When you use Willbee with your child, we collect:
- the child's first name/nickname and a chosen avatar style;
- optional learner-profile preferences you select;
- assignment images/PDFs/text you capture or upload;
- activity data the child generates (steps, time, hints, mood and comparison check-ins, XP/levels/streaks/honey, reward redemptions);
- optional voice-note transcripts — recorded by the child, transcribed on the child's device, with the audio never uploaded (text only).
Your child does not provide an email address, does not create their own account, and cannot communicate with or be visible to other users or the public.
3. How we use it. Solely to provide Willbee: generating the step-by-step missions (assignment content is sent to our AI provider, Anthropic/Claude, only for this purpose, and is not used to train AI models), showing your family's progress, and operating the gamification and notification features. We do not sell your child's information, do not show advertising, and do not use it for any unrelated commercial purpose.
4. Who we share it with. Only service providers that help us operate Willbee (database/auth/storage, AI processing, hosting, email), under contracts that require them to protect it. See the Privacy Policy for the current list.
5. Your rights. You may review your child's information, refuse to permit further collection or use, and require deletion — at any time, from Settings or by contacting jason@maglanstudios.com. Deleting your account withdraws consent and stops further collection.
6. We will not require more than is reasonably necessary. A child's use of Willbee is never conditioned on providing more personal information than is reasonably necessary.
7. A link to our full Privacy Policy is provided with this notice.
B. How we obtain your consent
COPPA requires a method “reasonably calculated, in light of available technology, to ensure that the person providing consent is the child's parent.” Because Willbee is parent-operated — the adult creates the account, provides their own verifiable email, controls all data, reviews all AI output, and the child has no independent access to the public or other users — and because Willbee does notdisclose children's information externally, COPPA permits an email-based (“email plus”) consent method, which Willbee uses:
- You create an account with a verifiable email address and set a password.
- You are shown this notice and the Privacy Policy and must take an affirmative action to consent (an unchecked checkbox plus an “I am the parent/guardian and I consent” confirmation).
- We record your consent (with a timestamp and policy version) and send a confirmation email to your verified address noting that you enabled Willbee for your child and how to review or delete data.
- You can withdraw consent at any time by deleting your account.
We retain a record that consent was given (who, when, policy version) for as long as the account is active and as required by law.
